"Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith, music is of preeminent
importance. Music should assist the assembled believers to express and share the gift of faith that is within them
and to nourish and strengthen their interior commitment of faith. The quality of joy and enthusiasm which music
adds to community worship cannot be gained in any other way.... Music can also unveil a dimension of meaning and
feeling, a communication of ideas and intuitions which words alone cannot yield." (MCW 23-24)
Ministers of Music at St. Mary's Cathedral--whether they be cantors, organists, instrumentalists, choir directors,
choir members of all ages, soloists, or those in ensembles--are committed to excellence, to fostering not only
a sense of mystery and awe in worship but also a sense of joy. There are a number of opportunities offered at the
Cathedral for people to share their musical gifts and thus to respond to the call to serve the church. Talent shared
and the gift of music, both given and received, enrich the lives of all who worship.
